Hey Friends!

How are you?

March 20th was the first day of spring, so we have now officially made it past winter!

We changed our clocks and there is a little more daylight everyday.

Doesn’t it make you feel better? It makes me feel better!

One of the things that I look forward to the most at the end of winter is putting away my winter clothes, pulling out all of my spring clothes, and shopping for a few new things to freshen everything up a bit.

But transitioning your closet can be a daunting task for many people.

This is how I do it

My closet is divided into sections.  I have my shoes together, my bags together, sweaters are together, shirts are together, pants are together, etc. So I take it one section at a time.

The first thing I pull out of the closet are any pieces that are too dark in color for spring or that are too heavy or warm for spring.  After I pull that pile, I sort through it for things that I will be donating and things that will go away until next year.

I continue this task through each section of my closet. As I pull things out, I ask myself, do I love this, did I wear this, does it fit me, will I wear it again next year?

I use my bed, thank goodness I have a king size bed, to make all of the piles; toss, donate, put away for next year. I take some things off of hangers and fold them for storage.

Now, let’s bring in Spring!

After all of the winter clothes are OUT, it’s time to bring spring IN!

I pull my spring clothes in sections the same way my closet is organized. As I pull the spring things out I also go through them to be sure they are things I still want or will wear. If not, they get added to the toss or donate piles.

Over the last several weeks I have also been buying a few new things to add to my spring wardrobe.  I pull these things out and weave them into the mix as well.

Here are a few of the new Spring things I have bought and added to my closet.

Spring can be fickle in New England.  We have had snow in late March, even early April.  Nights and mornings can still be quite cool so layers are necessary. Therefore, not everything goes away right now. I keep a few warm sweaters and winter layering pieces that are in brighter colors in my closet until we get to the warmer weather in a few months.  Once May and June roll around I take the last of the warmer pieces out of the closet and move the remainder of the summer pieces in.

I love how much lighter my closet feels. With the winter bulk out it’s not as crowded and with all of the darker colors out it looks lighter too!

How is your spring closet transition going?
